We are now
approaching the 6th round of the 2006/2007 HDS
Modified Production Series to be held in Maryborough on the 24th
of February.
The series has been
full of excitement & great racing so far. We have been to
Brisbane, Kingaroy, Gympie, Lismore & Rockhampton with two
rounds to go the series will be fought out right up to the end
of round 7 at Toowoomba on the 10th of March.
From the outset at
Brisbane on the 18th of November we knew we were in
for a great series. We had 42 cars start the night. One of the
biggest fields seen for a Modified Production Series meeting.
The heat winners & place getters were a mixed bunch with
Worling, Grother, Matt Swarbrooke (in his first Modified
Production meeting), Todd Doyle, Michael Hally, Craig Mellor,
Greg Raymont, Robert Trapp taking out the heat wins. The heats
saw some damage to cars with Rodney Pammenter rolling &
destroying his new VS Commodore. The B Main had to be run with
Paul Hussey, Mark Ferguson, Steve Downes & Shane MacDonald all
going through to the A Main. The A Main Feature event proved to
be a hotly contested event. The driver to come out on top was a
newcomer to Modified Production in Toowoomba’s Shane Langton
followed by Gavin Fletcher, Aiden Raymont, Greg Raymont, Worling
& Travis Barron.
Round 2 came around
one week later at Kingaroy on the 25th of November.
With the time frame so narrow it left a few cars unable to get
their cars ready. Still we had a good numbers with 32 cars
nominated. We had a variety of heat winners with Garry Maroske,
Michael Hally, Dennis Shallcross, Robert Trapp with Aiden
Raymont & Todd Doyle both taking out two heat wins each. With
quite a few cars retiring for the night throughout the heats
there was no B Main Feature. We were straight into the A Main
Feature event. It was a dream run for Todd Doyle taking out the
event with Maroske, Hally & Trapp taking out the minor
placings.
December 9 saw the
series go to Gympie for round 3. Another great roll up of cars
were on show with 32 competing. With Gympie being a highly
challenging track with the locals having an advantage it would
turn out to be an interesting night of racing. It started off
with Learoyd, Aiden Raymont & Cairns driver Wayne Miles in his
BA Falcon taking out round 1 wins. Locals Glenn Pagel and Greg
Raymont showed them how it was done with round 2 victories.
Round 3 saw Michael Hally, Glenn Pagel & Aiden Raymont taking
the wins. The A Main feature commenced with Steve Price being
black flagged before the race with a flat tyre. This set a
presetant with Clarke, Stott & Tischler also receiving the black
flag throughout the event. With damage to his exhaust Greg
Raymont narrowly held on to take out the 40 lap feature event
with son Aiden following closely in 2nd. Another
local followed suit coming home in 3rd was Glenn
Pagel with Michael Hally taking out 4th place.
With 3 rounds
completed the pointscore was looking impressive with Greg
Raymont in first followed very closely by Michael Hally, Aiden
Raymont, Price, Worling, Trapp, Downes, Maroske & Grother.
The next port of
call was Lismore NSW for round 4 on the 6th of
January. The start of a new year was off to an exciting start
with once again good numbers nominated with 33 cars nominated
for the event. Local driver Jason Jolley once again looked
impressive on his home track taking out a round 1 heat win with
Randall and Grother following suit. Round 2 saw Craig Mellor
take out a heat while driving the EL Falcon of Travis Barron.
This round also saw winners in Greg Raymont & Randall chalked up
another win. Round 3 saw Grother take out another win with
Hally & Jolley. The B Main event was run. Then the A Main took
centre stage. With plenty of action being packed into 30 laps
it was full on right untill the last lap. It saw Mark Ferguson
roll over the line leaving his car a wreck. This meant Doyle
took out the win with Ferguson second & Hally third.
If you thought it
couldn’t get any better it was time to head north for the 5th
round being run over 2 big nights at Rockhampton. Although the
numbers were fewer than other rounds this didn’t mean the action
would stop. There were 27 cars who made the trip north. That
included 2 cars from further north of Graham Bing & Chris
Jensen. Friday night racing got under way with Neil Coomber
taking out the first heat. Steve Price followed suit with Greg
Raymont winning the third heat of round 1. Round 2 & 3 on the
first night proved to be a mixed bag with Doyle, Stott,
Macdonald & Mellor amongst the winners. Saturday rolled around
with 1 round to complete before the A Main Feature event. Glenn
Pagel, Hally & Ware had a great start to the evening with all
taking out heat wins. The A Main was full of spills with Shane
Macdonald finding himself involved in a roll over which left him
unable to continue in the event. After 35 laps Greg Raymont was
the one left holding the chequered flag followed closely by
Gympie’s Glenn Pagel & Troy Ware finishing in a well placed 3rd.
Now with only 2
rounds to go of the HDS Modified Production Series will be
action packed racing right to the last lap of the feature in
Toowoomba on the 10th of March.

Production Entrants Group would sincerely like to thank the
