The
HDS Modified Production Series for the 2006/2007 season has come
to an end. The 7 rounds have been run over the last 4 months
with rounds being run in Brisbane, Kingaroy, Gympie, Lismore,
Rockhampton, Maryborough & Toowoomba.
Michael
Hally emerged triumphant after seven action-packed rounds.
Consistency was the key to winning the series as Hally never
quite made a feature win, but sure was at the pointy end of the
field when the time mattered most. Hally was always one to
watch after several dazzling displays with drives from the back
of the field to the front. Unfortunately for Modified
Production, Michael Hally announced that his car is now for sale
and will be stepping up to Super Sedans.
After
the final round Greg Raymont trailed Hally by only 29 points,
(which is ironically Raymont's race number!) Raymont added two
feature wins to his name to be the first runner up in the
series. Raymont claimed wins at his home track Gympie, and
one at Rockhampton Speedway.
Todd
Doyle was credited with third place, but mechanical failures
plagued Doyle's chances throughout the series. Doyle won
feature races firstly in round two at Kingaroy, and round four
at Lismore. Doyle was leading the feature race at both
Brisbane and Rockhampton, but pulled out with mechanical
problems on both occasions.
Shane
Langton started the series off with an impressive win at
Brisbane International Speedway. Langton has shown great
potential throughout the series in what was his first full
season of racing.
Other
feature winners were Steve Price who drove faultlessly at
Maryborough in round six, and Robert Trapp who stole the
limelight in the final round at Charlton taking the win which
went right down to the wire as Mark Ferguson and Trapp tussled
for the lead in the dying stages.
15 drivers completed
all 7 rounds of the series & they were Michael Hally, Greg
Raymont, Todd Doyle, Aiden Raymont, Garry Maroske, Steve Price,
Shane MacDonald, Neil Coomber, Darryl Neisler, Steven Zahl, Troy
Ware, Gavin Fletcher, Adrian Stott, Steve Downes & Luke
Hollyman. A great effort was put in by all drivers to show
their commitment to the series and Modified Production in
general. Across the seven rounds, a total of 55 different
drivers contested the series, which just goes to show the depth
and talent of Modified Production in Queensland.
