Langton takes out
series opener at BIS
Sunday
November 19, 2006.
With
41 cars nominated for round 1 of the HDS Modified Productions Series
at Archerfield it was always set to be a huge event with plenty of
action.
With 3
heats to qualify for the A Main with 14 cars in each heat the
pressure was right on from the 1st heat of the night.
Heat one of the night was full on straight up with Darryl Etherden
leading from pole position ahead of Greg Worling, Steven Zahl & Greg
Raymont. Etherden was winning in his 2nd race meeting in
Modified Production until the engine blew up in his cortina. This
gave way for Greg Worling to take the win.
The
second heat was again action packed with an accident half way
through the heat ending the night for both Allan Irwin & Troy Ware
with major damage to their cars.
The
next two rounds of heats were full of action with the spectacular
rollover of the new car of Rodney Pammenter, which was it's 2nd ever
outing, as well as numerous incidents seeing damage to other cars.
The
cars to beat from the heats were Craig Mellor in his new Commodore
with Aiden & Greg Raymont both hot on Mellor's heels. After some
early damage Todd Doyle was not to be discounted with some good heat
finishes as well as the quiet achiever Shane Langton from Toowoomba.
With
heats completed the starting positions were decided for the A Main
with Craig Mellor & Aiden Raymont off the front row. Michael Hally
& Greg Raymont off the 2nd row.
With
the top 18 A Main positions decided the B Main was to be run to
decide who the remaining 4 positions were to go to in the A Main.
Paul Hussey started the B Main from pole & led all the way to the
chequered flag with Shane MacDonald, Mark Ferguson & Steve Downes
going through to the A Main.
Now
that the remaining positions are determined we were set for a
start. Unfortunately Craig Mellor couldn’t have got a worse start &
being shuffled down through the pack. Todd Doyle & Shane Langton
pounced with Doyle looking to take the win but it wasn’t to be with
mechanical problems taking him out of the race. This left the door
open for Shane Langton to take the lead from the rest of the field.
Robert
Trapp moved through the field mixing it amongst Aiden & Greg Raymont
until a driveline problem forced him to retire. Shane
Macdonald made the final transfer spot from the B-main and moved his
way up the order to 9th until and engine misfire made him pull
infield.
But
the night belonged to Shane Langton as he drove the wheels of his
Ford Falcon to take out round 1 of the prominent HDS Series,
followed closely by a great drive from Gavin Fletcher who came from
15th position, Aiden Raymont, Greg Raymont, Greg Worling
& big mover Travis Barron taking 6th from starting 17th.
This
was Shane Langton's second ever appearance at Brisbane International
Speedway and both times he has taken out feature events.
Overall the night was filled with a lot of mixed results for all
drivers. Now we have round 2 this weekend the 25th November in
Kingaroy. With some drivers with work to do on their cars it will
be a busy week for them all to get to Kingaroy. |
