The
2008/2009 GW Racing Modified Production series went off with a
bang on Saturday night (18th October) with the event receiving
27 nominations, which was down on last years count, but still a
great field of Modified Productions which produced some
fantastic racing.
Current New South Wales
champion Steve Price started his series campaign in the best
possible way, qualifying his Blackburn Engines/Steelforce
sponsored Ford Cortina in pole position for the 30 lap final.
Price led the race from green to checker and almost went
unchallenged, as a slight error with 2 laps to go saw Mark
Raymont dive up the inside of Price, but wasn't enough as Price
took the win from Mark Raymont followed by Gary Maroske in 3rd.
Price will be looking to advance on last seasons result after
finishing a credible 3rd in the six round series.
Matt Swarbrooke was headed
for a well earned result, holding down 2nd place until he was
forced to retire after a suspension failure. Former QLD
Champion Aiden Raymont made his way up the order after starting
from 8th spot on the grid. Raymont steered his Falcon into
2nd place after Swarbrooke retired, as Aiden's brother mark
followed suit running in 3rd place. Aiden Raymont then
slowed to a stop with a broken axle, which brought on the
yellows for a restart. Todd Doyle took an early exit after
contact with Darren Pearson. Doyle had a horrid night only
finishing one heat all night after being involved in several
unfortunate incidents.
With a depleted field
there were seven cars still running after the 30 lap event with
rough track conditions claiming several cars. Quintin
Clarke crossed the line in 4th place, while Dennis Bullpitt
struggled with a misfire all night but managed to finish a
credible 5th. Max Clarke crossed the line in 6th place
followed by Aaron Broadbridge.

Adrian Stott kicked off
the heat race action by taking out heat one, while Todd Doyle
was running second in heat two but failed to finish his first
heat after his car broke a driveshaft. Aidan Raymont won
heat two, as Steve Price started his dominance of the night
winning heat three.
Darren Pearson crossed the
line ahead of Mark Raymont in heat four, with Matt Swarbrooke
leading heat five from start to finish with Steve Price hot on
his heels while Gary Maroske took the win in heat six.
Heat seven looked like it
was going to be a Raymont 1 and 2 finish, but Aidan pulled onto
the infield suddenly while leading the race after an engine
misfire developed. Raymont unfortunately took his brother
with him onto the infield. Mark Raymont was lucky enough
to get going and re-join in second place finishing the race
behind Steven Zahl.
Steve Price was set for
another heat win in heat eight, but two laps from home Price had
a left front stub axle failure which saw him only lose one place
to finish second behind Darren Pearson. Gary Maroske stole
heat nine with Adrian Stott in second and Gavin Fletcher third.
