Victory lane for Raymont
Tuesday March 10, 2009. Nathan Macdonald

Former Queensland Champion Aidan Raymont drove a gallant race on Saturday night (7th March) at Charlton Raceway Toowoomba aboard his Cooroy Auto Wreckers Falcon.  Raymont started the 25 lap main event from position ten, driving his way to the front at the fall of the checkers for Round 4 of the GW Racing Modified Production Series

Current New South Wales champion Steve Price qualified on pole position, with local hero Shane Macdonald placing his car beside Price for the final.  Price led the race until he retired with a broken steering arm with 7 laps to go.

Last Round winner Greg Worling had a night he would rather forget.  Worling was involved in several incidents in the night, suffering damage to the immaculate Kibbles Casino Commodore.  Worlings fate wasn't going to change for the feature race either, with four laps down Mark Raymont spun, which then saw a chain reaction of events which saw several cars involved, as a result Worling received excessive damage forcing him onto the infield.  Raymont was then sent to the rear.

Other locals Rodney Pammenter and Robert Trapp qualified 3rd and 4th respectively, however the final result would see row one and row two of the grid fail to finish.  Pammenter looked to challenge Price early on in the feature, but unfortunate for Pammenter as he spun the #8 commodore which then sent him to the rear.  Pammenter would fight back to 7th place until ultimately retiring with a steering problem.

Matt Swarbrooke was the big mover early in the race, working the high line to his favour rounding up several cars to sit in 2nd place until he ran too wide out of turn two when he collected the concrete wall, forcing Swarbrooke to retire.

Shane Macdonald looked set for a solid finish until a cruel blow with 2 laps remaining.  Macdonald was holding 2nd place comfortably behind Aidan Raymont until he ground to a halt after suffering a broken timing chain on his engine.  A sprint race to the end then saw Mark Ferguson cross the line for 2nd, with Lismore's Quinton Clarke in 3rd.  Adrian Stott, Dennis Bullpitt, Max Clarke, Steven Zahl, Trent Nicolia and David Jacobi filled the minor placings.

The final round for the 2008/2009 GW Racing Queensland Modified Production Series will be held at Maryborough Speedway on the 3rd May 2009.
