It was a typical night of racing for Modified Productions at Maryborough Speedway on Sunday night (May 3rd).  The night filled with spectacular crashes and incredible driving talents from all drivers, but it was high flyer Aidan Raymont who was able to claim the win in the final round of the GW Racing Series.  Whilst claiming the win for the night, and the second win in this years series, it was Aidan's brother Mark Raymont who shared the limelight in clinching the ultimate prize, being announced the winner of the 2008/2009 GW Racing Series.

After five rounds, It all came down to one race.  Mark Raymont leading Steve Price by 20 points going into the feature race.  Aidan Raymont qualified out of pole position, with Troy Ware out of position two, Mark Raymont in three and Rodney Pammenter out of four.

The race got underway at a cracking pace, with Aidan Raymont leading the way, followed closely by Troy Ware.  Ware was throwing down the gauntlet, running a different line to Raymont and looked to be a serious threat until a couple mistakes which saw Rodney Pammenter and Dale Grother slip through.  Pammenter never let Raymont out of his sight and with 14 laps remaining Pammenter started to apply the blowtorch, placing the car up near the fence and gained momentum and mounted a challenge as Pammenter ran on the outside of Raymont into turn one and two but couldn't pull it off.  The slick track taking its toll as Pammenter waited for a mistake from Raymont but was not be as Aidan drove a faultless race leading all 30 laps of the final.

Mark Raymont fell back in the pack early on as far as 5th place, but it was the Gympie resident's late race charge that saw him run the high line in the final turn to pass Dale Grother and annex 3rd place by 2 tenth's of a second, as well as claiming the series win.

The action wasn't limited to the front running cars, as the heavily contested feature race saw cars running three wide with Max Clarke,  Greg Worling, Steve Price and Dennis Shallcross to name a few.  Dale Grother was outdone by Mark Raymont on the finish line leaving Grother in 4th place, while Troy Ware continued his hard race to finish in 5th, followed by Dennis Shallcross, Steve Price, Mark Ferguson, Greg Worling, Gary Maroske, David Kent, Rodney Midolo, Trent Humphreys and Matt Swarbrooke.

Steve Price hung onto some valuable points to finish the series in 2nd place, with Aidan Raymont finishing in third.  A full list of the finishing standings will be posted soon.

Heat race action saw a spectacular roll by Lee Steffens aboard his VS Commodore.  Stefens got a little too close to the wall up the front straight, riding the wall and barrel rolling his car 6 times down the straight.  Fortunately Lee was able to get out of the car in one piece, his safety gear proving an important factor.  Little could be said about the car though, sustaining substantial damage.

Once again Graham and Wendy Erhart of GW Racing along with Peter Lack, have supported this years series which has been a great success, with the final round a testament to what sort of product Modified Production has been turned into.  The support has not gone unnoticed, and all the drivers, spectators and organisers are deeply proud of the support thrust behind Modified Production racing in Queensland.
